Leviticus 19:3

Leviticus 19:3 “You shall each revere his mother and his father, and keep My sabbaths:
I the Lord am your God."

I chose this commandment because it is one I was told to use since I was much younger.
My parents raised me with love and kindness, they wanted me to grow and get hurt
a little in the process. I learned so much from them. When I was younger, we used
to have our ten commandments on the wall of our kitchen. It was not a regular
version of the ten commandments but it was a version I had made when I was
6 years old that was on bright pink paper with light blue (illegible) writing.
My version had actually two types of the same commandment-- honor your
mother and father. This was incredibly important in my family. When me and
my two older sisters responded to them with unkind words, my parents would
not get angry with us they would simply remind us of the commandment.
Supposedly, everyone hates their parents at some point, but that was not the case
for me. Never have I ever hated my parents. Yes, I have hated that they haven’t
allowed me to stay out with my friends until 1 a.m. or that they wouldn’t drive me
places during blizzards but I have always honored them. They are the most incredible
people I have ever met and I look up to them every single day. My parents have
done so much for me that goes unnoticed or is swept under the rug. It’s unfair to
them that I am not constantly thanking them for everything. By honoring my
parents, I am also honoring those who came before them. By appreciating our
parents and where we come from, it can lead us in the right direction for our
future children. Raising our children to appreciate our parents effort continues the
chain of gratitude.

I chose this picture of my dad and me a couple years ago because it means a lot
to me. This is my favorite picture of us because we were both truly happy to be
at a hockey game together. My dad had gotten us seats 10 rows behind the ice
and it was my first game ever. He was so happy to teach me the rules of the game
and show me everything that was happening even if the NJ Devils aren’t so good.
Our parents care so much for us but their love can easily be overlooked. I have
made the promise never to ignore all the things my parents do for me, I hope
you do the same.
